Choosing an Automatic Slicing Machine

Selecting a slicer is as much about presentation as cutting. Starting with the finished pack helps define the functions your machine needs to provide.

Start with a product sample and the intended pack

Salami, sucuk, pastirma, ham and cheese should be assessed according to their individual product characteristics. List the dimensions, incoming conditions and required presentation for each product. Prepare samples that represent your range rather than making a decision from a single example.

The FERMAK automatic slicing machine is offered for slicing these product groups and arranging slices on a conveyor. The mini model also provides adjustable slice thickness, portioning settings and touchscreen controls. Evaluate the choice against your product dimensions and planned working arrangement.

Specify slice thickness and portion requirements separately

First define the required thickness, then the number of slices in each portion. A stack of slices and a spaced presentation may require different output arrangements. Sharing a sample pack or presentation photograph helps communicate the result you want.

Do not treat a fixed slice count as equivalent to a fixed pack weight. Because product dimensions and structure can vary, describe the target weight separately. If weight control is needed, ask how it will be provided within the machine or elsewhere in the line.

Assess output alongside the packaging process

Agree on a clear capacity unit for comparison, such as slices per minute, portions per minute or another defined output. Establish the product, slice thickness and operating conditions behind that figure. A slice count stated without a time unit should not be interpreted as hourly or per-minute throughput.

Plan who will collect the product from the output conveyor and how it will move into packaging. Consider packaging work, feeding intervals and changeover times together. During a line trial, observe the portions that consistently reach packaging as well as the cutting speed.

Include changeovers and access in the trial

If several products will run during one shift, review how settings are changed and which steps the operator must perform. Evaluate the clarity of the control screen, operating instructions and access for cleaning. Leave sufficient space around the equipment for servicing and product transfer.

What should you look for in a trial?

  • Slices that meet the intended thickness and appearance.
  • The planned portion count and conveyor arrangement.
  • A manageable output that suits the packaging stage.
  • Clearly defined settings for different products.

Compare FERMAK standard and mini slicers against these criteria. Your product sample, pack dimensions and expected output provide a practical starting point for discussing the appropriate model.
